Head of Technical – £Generous – 884574

The Role:

 

Lead on all aspects of Food safety, Health and Safety and Corporate social responsibility.  Lead all Technical aspects of the business developing the site through continuous improvement initiatives; creating a results driven culture characterised by quality of product, efficiency of process and safe systems of work.

 

Operational

  • Responsibility for Food Safety and quality management, ensuring that products and manufacturing operations meet all quality, food safety and legality requirements.
  • Maintain and develop programmes of continuous improvement.
  • Support the operational teams to achieve optimum performance and compliance with food safety and quality systems requirements.

 

Technical

  • Provide Directors, Managers and business colleagues with guidance and direction on technical systems, developments and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead Technical improvement initiatives to continually develop and improve the business
  • Lead the Maintenance & development of the site management systems
  • Manage customer & 3rd party requirements and relationships
  • Lead & Support site improvement initiatives to achieve the Business plan
  • Lead Technical decisions across the full business to ensure current food safety and H&S standards are met
  • Develop a KPI driven culture driving continuous improvement within the production environment
  • Visually leading and supportive to all members of the Technical & operational team, leading within the business and directly interacting with colleagues on a daily basis
  • Deliver against agreed productivity, labour, efficiency, product quality, profitability & team management targets
  • Develop a positive, proactive and problem solving culture within the Technical team and supporting wider in the business

 

Workforce Development

  • Ensure the Technical team are provided with effective leadership and guidance to achieve optimum performance, personal and professional development.
  • Ensure that the technical team are given effective leadership and support in order to fulfil their duties.
  • Ensure effective training for all individuals are developed to meet the needs of the business
  • Complete regular job conversations and feedback so that all employees are clear of expectations and understand current performance levels

 

Financial

  • Manage the technical department budget to ensure optimum utilisation of personnel and other equipment/material resources.
  • Develop, monitor and utilise effective business management/financial KPI, ensuring they are visual and used effectively driving performance
  • Creative approach to reducing costs
  • Create and report against a yearly financial budget
  • Ensure all activities are aligned to and support profit optimisation objectives for the business

 

 

Commercial

 

  • Maintain close dialogue with commercial colleagues to ensure that the key aspects of customer feedback, expectations, product performance and service are communicated, as needed, to Technical & Production teams.
  • Work closely with commercial and production teams to support brand development initiatives
  • Assist in the hosting of customer visits

Strategic

  • Provide a lead contribution to the work of the business meetings and communications
  • Deliver improvements to plant and process, continually evolving and developing the team and site capability
  • Lead on a range of business improvement initiatives
  • Promote inter departmental team work and aim to exceed customer and company expectations in all areas

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

  • Ensure that the site environment operates to high standards of health and safety at all times
  • Lead the development and promotion of effective Health and Safety management systems.
  • Provide the direction, mentoring, training and guidance to achieve an optimum, safe working environment.
  • Develop, support and maintain an ongoing programme of continuous Health and Safety improvement initiatives.

 

 

The Person:

 

  • A proven track record in chilled food manufacture is essential.
  • You will have worked strategically to achieve business objectives.
  • Hands on in your approach with strong man management skills.
  • A natural ability to build strong relationships with both externally and across the business.
  • Commercially aware.
