Production Supervisor – £38000 – 884619

Overview:

To lead and supervise the day-to-day operation of a designated production area, ensuring that all products are manufactured safely, legally, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

The Area Supervisor is responsible for achieving the production plan while maintaining the highest standards

The role requires a strong hands-on leader who can motivate and develop teams, manage operational performance, respond effectively to problems and ensure that company standards and procedures are consistently followed.

SKILLS

  • Familiar with MRP systems and stock control.
  • Maintain production information and KPI’s – use of Microsoft Excel.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Food Safety & Hygiene
  • Maintain and promote the highest standards of food hygiene and food safety within the production area.
  • Ensure all employees comply with company food safety procedures, policies and HACCP requirements.
  • Ensure effective hygiene practices are followed at all times.
  • Carry out regular hygiene and food safety checks within the area.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE and hygiene clothing.
  • Ensure effective control of foreign bodies, allergens, contamination risks and other food safety hazards.
  • Escalate any food safety concerns immediately to the appropriate manager or technical team.
  • Ensure appropriate action is taken following food safety or hygiene non-conformances.
  • Support internal, external and customer audits where required.
  • Promote a strong food safety culture throughout the team.
  1. Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
  • Ensure a consistently high level of GMP is achieved and maintained.
  • Conduct regular GMP inspections and behavioural observations.
  • Ensure production areas, equipment and personnel meet required GMP standards.
  • Challenge poor standards and behaviours immediately.
  • Ensure cleaning, housekeeping and environmental standards are maintained.
  • Ensure raw materials, work-in-progress and finished products are handled and stored correctly.
  • Ensure traceability and identification requirements are followed.
  • Identify trends in GMP performance and implement corrective actions.
  1. Health & Safety
  • Ensure all company Health & Safety procedures are adhered to.
  • Promote a positive safety culture within the production team.
  • Carry out regular safety checks and observations.
  • Ensure employees use machinery, equipment and PPE correctly.
  • Ensure safe systems of work / SOPs are followed.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions as required.
  • Ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
  • Participate in risk assessments and review existing controls where required.
  • Stop unsafe activities where there is an immediate risk to people.
  • Lead by example and ensure safety is treated as a non-negotiable priority.
  1. Production Planning & Performance
  • Ensure the production plan is achieved safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate the activities of the production team to maximise output.
  • Monitor production performance throughout the shift.
  • Identify and address issues affecting output, efficiency or service levels.
  • Manage production priorities in response to changing operational requirements.
  • Minimise downtime, waste, rework and production losses.
  • Ensure products are manufactured to the correct specification and within agreed timescales.
  • Communicate production performance and issues to the Shift/Production Manager.
  • Ensure effective handovers are completed between shifts.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take corrective action where required.
  • 5.People Management & Leadership
  • Provide strong day-to-day leadership to the production team.
  • Motivate, coach and develop employees to achieve their full potential.
  • Build positive working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Set clear expectations regarding performance, behaviour, attendance and standards.
  • Manage conflict effectively and professionally.
  • Promote teamwork and accountability.
  • Act as a visible and approachable leader on the production floor.
  • Develop Team Leaders and other employees for future progression.
  • A high level of people-management and interpersonal skills is essential for this role.
  1. Training & Development
  • Identify training requirements within the team.
  • Deliver and/or coordinate training for new and existing employees.
  • Ensure employees are competent before undertaking specific tasks.
  • Maintain and regularly update the departmental Skills Matrix.
  • Identify skills gaps and implement appropriate training plans.
  • Complete training records accurately and on time.
  • Coach employees on GMP, food safety, health & safety, quality and operational procedures.
  • Support succession planning and development of future Team Leaders and Supervisors.
  • Create, review and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop clear and practical work instructions for production activities.
  • Ensure SOPs accurately reflect current processes.
  • Ensure employees are trained against relevant SOPs.
  • Review procedures following process changes, incidents or improvements.
  • Ensure obsolete documentation is removed from use.
  • Ensure documentation is controlled and completed correctly.
    Production Paperwork & Data Accuracy
  • Ensure all production paperwork is completed accurately, legibly and within required timescales.
  • Check production records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure traceability information is correctly recorded.
  • Verify CCPs (critical control points), quantities, batch numbers, times, checks and other required production information.
  • Identify and correct documentation errors.
  • Ensure records meet company, customer and legal requirements.
  1. MRP / Production Management Systems
  • Use the company’s MRP/ERP system effectively to support production operations.
  • Record and monitor production activity accurately.
  • Complete production transactions within required timescales.
  • Monitor material availability and communicate shortages or discrepancies.
  • Support production scheduling and planning activities.
  • Ensure correct recording of raw materials, batches, quantities and finished products.
  • Investigate system discrepancies and escalate where necessary.
  • Use system information to support operational decision-making.

 

  1. Quality Management
  • Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with agreed specifications.
  • Work closely with Technical/Quality teams to maintain product standards.
  • Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Prevent the release of non-conforming product where appropriate.
  • Ensure quality checks are completed correctly.
  • Support root-cause investigations.
  • Participate in corrective and preventative action (CAPA) activities.
  • Promote a Right First Time culture.
  1. Communication & Shift Handover
  • Provide clear and effective communication throughout the shift.
  • Conduct structured shift handovers.
  • Communicate production performance, staffing, quality, safety and technical issues.
  • Escalate significant issues promptly.
  • Ensure employees understand changes to priorities, processes and standards.
