To provide a service to the operational team that ensures the factories are clean both visually and microbiologically and they are cleaned in the most effective and efficient way. Manage a team of Hygiene personnel to deliver the right standards every day and drive continuous improvement.

Promote a high standard of awareness and understanding at site level of all appropriate policies, procedures and product specifications in the hygiene field.

Key Duties:

General Duties:

  • Ensuring Hygiene Department targets are met within deadlines, without compromising quality or control of costs.
  • Ensuring good housekeeping is maintained.
  • Ensuring that Quality, H&S and other Company policies are adhered to and liaising with relevant departments to ensure issues are resolved


  • Maintaining good employee relations and promoting equality of opportunity

Specific Cleaning Duties:

  • Standard Confirmation – Check that standards set within the hygiene function are adhered to through layered confirmation.


  • Manage Hygiene Standards – Maintain and improve hygiene standards using a range of management techniques including setting KPIs, monitoring environmental swab results, pre and post clean standards and feedback from audits both internal and external.


  • Facilitate the Implementation of Hygiene Standards – Ensure the necessary training and support is made available to the hygiene team and other functional areas based on training needs analysis. Empower the hygiene team to measure their performance and undertake training activities to improve their performance.


  • Manage Factory Hygiene Audits (Including Customer and 3rd Party) – Ensure that any areas identified for improvement are addressed at root cause level. Be aware of major customer requirements including all codes of practice. Also manage the customer / 3rd Party audit process as it relates to factory hygiene.


People Management Duties

  • Checking and adjusting staff levels to ensure the most efficient running of the department to ensure fulfilment of present and future sales strategy
  • Managing employees effectively and addressing any issues that arise in a professional manner by ensuring legislative compliance and best practice at all times- seek advice from HR when necessary
  • Identifying training needs for new and existing employees through liaising with HR, providing coaching where required
  • Conducting disciplinary hearings with departmental staff
  • Approving and managing holiday allowance to ensure adequate cover in the department
  • Conducting return to work interviews with departmental staff, ensuring completion of a Return to Work Form and forwarding to HR
  • Reviewing the performance of departmental staff- setting objectives for their training and development, providing support and creating opportunities for their training and development, providing feedback and evaluating the effectiveness and performance improvement
  • Ensuring compliance with Employee Handbook for all departmental staff
  • Liaising with HR/Payroll regarding T&A/Wages issues
  • Maintaining good employee relations and promoting equality of opportunity
